Herschel Walker by Dienekes

has got to be the most boneheaded trade/ biggest coup in the history of the NFL. it gave the hated Cowboys 3 Super Bowls.

the only trade in sports that is its equal that I am aware of is the Quebec Nordiques trading Eric Lindross to the Philadelphia Flyers, for a bunch of picks and prospects, one of which was the incomparable Peter Forsberg.

I voted for by Darin H

the 1983 Broncos deal for Elway - 5 Superbowls (2 wins), and the best QB of all time! Close second is the Herschel deal.

Two thirds of the world is covered by water, the other third is covered by Champ Bailey

Ditto. n/t by Jeff Emanuel

the Lindros trade by Dienekes

here are the details on that:

Lindros to Flyers for Peter Forsberg, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Steve Duchesne, a 1st round selection (Jocelyn Thibault) in 1993, a 1st round selection (later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, later traded to the Washington Capitals - Nolan Baumgartner) in 1994, and $15,000,000 cash.

and to rank them by Dienekes

1. Dallas 89 - Walker for Smith et al.
2. San Diego 2001 - Vick for Tomlinson et al.
3. San Diego 2004 - Manning for Rivers et al.
then about 3 tied for 4th - Young, Elway, and Williams
then Favre
then Portis/Bailey, because that one is much more even than you're giving it credit for, IMO. that was a very good trade for both teams.

Voted for Walker by hoyasaxa

Probably have to go Elway after that and then trade for Favre.

And finally, not saying I wouldn't undo the Giants Manning trade (I probably would), but can't we at least wait for Shawne Merriman, Nate Kaeding and Philip Rivers to win a playoff game before christening it the biggest heist ever.

...if it were a choice. SD '04 or Dallas '89 depending on what happens with SD over the next five or so years.

Otherwise I ranked Elway 1. But of course I'm pretty biased.
