So, when do pitchers and catchers report?

I hope y'all can forgive me - but being that the other major sport I follow with any regularity is metric football, and I know no one is really hot for a discussion of why the MLS, well, sux - but I need to look forward to the return of baseball - and the NCAA Men's BB Championship - to get me through the loooooooooong winter.
Besides, I have to tell you, with the AL East shaping up to be, essentially, a re-match of 2007 (sorry Toronto, you're looking at 3rd again next year) I am positively jazzed about what the 2008 MLB season has to offer.
With the defending champs closing the sale with their 3rd baseman and WS MVP - with the Evil Empire™ putting back together the team that won 94-games for them during the regular season (and then mailing-in the play-offs) - with the serious teams on the Senior Circuit starting to look like they're sick of getting swept in the only interleague series that matters - man, it certainly looks like it's going to be a good year.
So, what do the pinstripers need to do to get back to the WS? (and if your answer doesn't include the words "better starting pitching", then you're not serious) What does the hometown team need to do to repeat? (hope for a miracle - it's reeeeeeeeally hard to do in this day and age) Will Barry be posting Bail Bonds before the start of the season? (no) And does anyone in the NL have what it takes to beat the best in the Junior League? (no, I don't think so)
For my own part, I look forward to being able to get back to McCoy Stadium as soon as I can - there is simply no better value for my cashola than some good minor league ball - and catching some games on those rare occasions when I have to hit the road for business.
I find the NBA to be totally unwatchable. To each his own.

Being a canuck Im totally biased toward the greatest sport on earth, but you gotta check out a hockey game. If you find it unwatchable on the tv, go check it out live. Its great fun.
NBA games are fine, but I only watch it because I still play it. Otherwise watching it is a grind I find.
Yo not that long ago a 83 win team from the senior circuit won the whole thing. Look for the Cubbies to take it next year. I think they will end up playing...the Angels (Im refusing to go with the AL East)
Being a Canadian, I gotta talk Jays. It really does look like 3rd place again unless JP does something. They got pieces to trade, like Troy Glaus and Adam Lind/Reed Johnson (not that the outfielders are worth a ton) plus he may end up trading Burnett, as he has an opt out at the end of the season. If you trade Glaus that opens up a whole at third and in the lineup, but their biggest whole is at short, where they got this all glove no hit guy Macdonald. Maybe you trade Burnett for a third base bat, and Glaus for a shortstop. (Maybe to Baltimore for Mora and Tejada, thought that seems to much to me for those two.)
Hockey is far, far more enjoyable to see in person than on TV.
Same goes for baseball, by the way.
On the Jays (who would be contenders in any other AL division and leaders in most NL divisions - lousy break for them) - you have to be ready to field a team that can win upwards of 92-98 games to keep up with the top dogs. Possible, but probably not in one year - the table stakes are simply too high at this point.

... and note that I don't pay much attention to baseball until the playoffs. It's a better game to read about than to watch. And if I pay too much attention to the Padres or Indians I'll just get my heart broken, so there's no point in doing that.
Besides, the Orange have, at worst, the best pair of frosh they've had since 'Melo and GMac in Fylnn and Greene.

I do love the NBA and college basketball but once the Gamecocks and Clemson are eliminated from SEC and ACC championship competition, respectively, I start to pine for the national pastime.
