No surprise.

A-Rod looks set to go back to the Evil Empire. So, the Yankees are essentially going to have the same team that won 94-games in the regular season last year - only under new management and minus The Rocket™.
Now, the big question, how much is Boston going to make the pinstripers have to pay for Santana? Any guesses?
I'm thinking Becket-money.
I forgot to mention that. I agree with you, though - if the Yankees get Santana with these changes they are actually a better team going into 2008.
Boston landing Santana... I know they're "talking with" with Twins but I have to believe this is mostly about raising the table stakes for the Yankees. I mean, gotta make 'em spend that Rocket Money somewhere, right?
Imagine, though...
Beckett
Santana
Dice-K
Shilling/Lester/Wakefield
Yikes! That rotation would win over 110-games.
I didn't think the Mets were even in contention.

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock.

They'll have Hughes and Joba for the whole year. They'll be better next year.
Frankly, either them or Boston should sell the farm to get Santana if they can lock him up. He's the best pitcher in baseball. Prospects are just that, prospects. Santana is the real deal.
Oh, and don't let the Mets get him. Please.
