A Tough Choice

Super Sunday proceeds Super Tuesday. For most Americans that is the natural order of things. My better half and I are huge sports fans. Tomorrow is a Do Not Disturb Day for us from about two in the afternoon until the final gun.
There are several reasons to root for, or against, both teams. I am a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. Two weeks ago the Ghosts of Lambeau were vanquished by mortal Giants. The Frozen Tundra sprouted an upset for the ages. This time the Giant went up the beanstalk. I could stay loyal to the NFC, tradition, and geography (I'm only a half-dozen exits away from The Meadowlands).
On the other side of the football universe are the New England Patriots. Up until this year, I admired what they built over the past seven years. Belichick and Brady are this generation's Lombardi and Starr. They have a commitment to excellence and teamwork. The Patriot Way is revolutionizing the NFL. It helps to have the best coach and QB, but to take Randy Moss and get him to buy into The Patriot Way is no small feat. Even before Spygate, where the Pats were caught "cheating" in their week one game with the Jets, I was down on them. I try to keep it between the lines, especially in the modern sports world. Brady went down a couple of pegs in my book. He leapt from one relationship, where he fathered a child, to another with a supermodel. He went on to have the best year of any quarterback in NFL history. In the context of the game, I guess that's all that matters.
Each team story is an American Story. The Giants, who were on the brink of elimination about six weeks ago, are now one game from immortality. This is no exaggeration. Their road to Arizona would be a great story in any year. A win on Sunday would not only make them champions, but an iconic team for the ages. It may take a Giant to slay a dragon, but it will be a tall order. It is no accident that the Giants' run began in the Week 17 showdown with these very Pats. There was some real question as to whether they would try and be competitive. They had clinched a playoff birth. The Patriots were one win away from a perfect regular season. The Giants did the right thing. All that is best in America was on display that Saturday night after Christmas. It was a belated gift to the fans. The Giants fell short, but could still stand tall.
The Patriots are on the Eve of Perfection. We do love underdogs, but we admire our best and brightest as well. To see the sharpest Marine in his dress blues, or the most beautiful baby in a mother's arms, or that classic vette roaring down the highway, are all a testament to American's strive for perfection. It is hard to root against it on Super Sunday.
We will see history either way, tomorrow.

P.S.
I'm going with the Giants.
Not a bad record, unless of course that "1" in the L-Column comes in the last game. Giants 17, Patriots 14

Time to pop open an ice cold Sam Adams and get revved up to watch the Patriots pursue perfection. Sam Adams and The New England Patriots - you see not everything in Masachusetts sucks. Go Pats. 19-0.
