Well shut my mouth and call me cornpone, 'Ol Jamie boy done up 'n got hisself a 5th place finish in The Bank Of America 500 At Lowe's Motor Speedway !
That's a top 10 and a top 5 on consecutive DAYS ! - He got a 9th in the Dollar General 300 Nationwide Series race the night before.
Good on ya, Sonnyboy ! Jack "Mr. Hat" Roush let Larry Carter and the boys run out the good equipment for you this week.
The best part was Saturday night watching Jamie pop by most of the field twice in the purple and gold 26. He was up there from basically the beginning and even led a few laps, but had a tire go down early (went from 10th to 34th in 1 lap - that TV never said anything about until almost the end of the race). I've been a McMurray fan for so long, I can remember when he ran like this consistently in the truck series.
A bunch of folks are saying that Jamie should have let all The Chase guys pass him - horse hockey ! Race to win or get the h-e-double-hockey sticks off the track !
Hey Mr. Roush: See what the boy can do if you let the dogs loose ? Don't you dare change a thing with the 26 team now, ya hear me ?
Next up, the half-mile mayhem that is Martinsville Speedway for the 18th and 19th. Jamie's gonna try and git-r-done in the 09 Zaxby's Roush-Fenway Ford truck at Martinsville on Saturday and then his usual ride in the Cup series on Sunday.
He's been bugging "Mr. Hat" for awhile to get back in the pickup and the lad finally got his wish. His old crew chief Chad will be atop the pit box too.
Jamie's golf outing for Autism Speaks is Monday (10-13) and I wish I could be there to contribute to the cause and run out 18 holes on a great course.
Anyway, congratulations to Jeff Burton on a fantastic win at The BoA 500. Well earned, especially for taking the chance on gas-only / no new tires at the last pit stop. That showed real guts on the part of the entire 31 team and it paid off big-time.
Cheers!
