I'm going to watch one game today, the Ice Bowl 2.

So nervous by hoyasaxa

I'm headed up to a friend's house to watch the NE-SD game, then coming back to my apartment so I can watch the Giants game alone. No one should have to deal with me during this game. I just hope we don't embarrass ourselves.

Can't believe by hoyasaxa

How badly this is falling apart.

Such a promising start.

Such a terrible second quarter.

Come on, Blue. Get your heads screwed on straight.

Is there anything less interesting than a Pats-Giants Super Bowl (assuming you're not from New England or NYC)? I don't think so.

You don't think a perfect season on the line will draw attention?

... then it would, and it still will some. But quite frankly everyone who's not an obsessed Giants fan expects this game to be a blowout win by the Pats (the last week of the regular season nonwithstanding), and it's a couple of northeastern teams playing each other. Hardly a recipe for good ratings.

And drinking some Sam Adams Utopias.

Looks like I might buy Super Bowl tickets. I would love to go. Oh my.

congrats hoya! by Dienekes

now Peyton's brother better go beat the Pats.

and that by Dienekes

would be an even better story than an undefeated season, IMO

Thanks by hoyasaxa

Yeah, my dad and I just bought some plane tickets to Phoenix. Now all we need is tickets to the game. Hopefully they're available for $500 or less. I really want to go.

My advice....wait by Darin H

Ticket prices will be the highest today and tomorrow. Wait a few days for the scalpers to get nervous and the price starts coming down.

Thanks, Darin by hoyasaxa

Yeah, we're not in a rush to buy the tickets.

Hope we can figure it out, as I still want to go, but we're happy to have a chance at making this happen.

but street scalping was legal in Phoenix when I lived there some 12 years ago. The even had a little place cordoned off somewhat near the arena when I used to go to Suns games (doubt they'll have that for the SB though). So if nothing else, there will be tickets available all the way up to kickoff. As for lodging, take a look at renting a condo from someone, Phoenix has been overbuilt the last few years, so you might be able to find a good deal there (Craig's list?).

You should have a great shot at going to the game, paying $500 a ticket for nosebleeds isn't out of the question. Someday I'm going to go to one (don't know if I could handle watching my team in one though).

Well by hoyasaxa

We're in good shape cause my dad's cousin lives in Phoenix, so we should have a couch to sleep on somewhere.

Basically all we owe is on the flight.

Great game by Darin H

back and forth the whole game, Tynes redeems himself in OT, Eli playing pretty good in the arctic and the Giants defense shutting down the GB running game.

Congrats and Go Giants!

He was on the Broncos opening day roster (he was the one Kevin Everett ran into when he broke his neck and Hixon felt responsible, personally for it) and we cut him mid way through the season. He had talent, but after that game he was completely tentative. Looks like the change of scenery did him well.

I'm rooting for a better end to the season than the way it began for Hixon.

Current line is PATS +13, O/U of 55.

Were I a betting man, and I am not, I would take the Giants and the Over. Week 16 was, methinks, a preview of what we can expect for a very entertaining game in 2 weeks (2 freaking weeks!). Prediction...

Giants 28
Pats 31

The Giants need to play a nearly flawless game and catch a break or two to win. I think they will play well enough but just won't the get the break (the critical NE mistake or 50-50 referee call that goes their way) they need.

I suspect Manning will play well (3 TDs, 2 picks - the second coming in the last minute trying to drive too far for a Hail Mary tying FG attempt), Brady will be better (4 TDs and a pick) and win another SB MVP.

I only wish (as do the Giants, I'd wager) they could play tomorrow instead of 2/3.

dont ask me why on the latter. just a hunch.

It still feels pretty darn good.

I can't believe it! :)
right at 25, and unranked in the USA Today poll, but still. Ranked! And they have to go to College Station Wednesday to play a Texas A&M club that's lost 3 straight, which makes me nervous (I NEVER like facing a team on a losing streak, especially a good team, especially a team I dislike), so a loss and that's likely to be the last time this season they're ranked, as they have Texas and Kansas coming up staggered a few games so they'll have a tough time putting together a long enough winning streak to counter a loss to A&M.

Ranked!

Sic 'em Bears!!!!

And Joe Lunardi gives them a 6 seed in his latest Bracketology. I don't know about THAT, but wow.

The Packers lost.

The Orange lost twice, the second time to Georgetown, in overtime, when they had a ton of opportunities to win the game.

The Chargers lost.

Andy Roddick got knocked of the Australian Open in the 3rd round.

Seriously by hoyasaxa

I am so spent. That game was exhausting after a not good night of sleep following the football game.

I need a few days off from this.

Two further points by hoyasaxa

1) Jonny Flynn is a player. Our Baby Doc Rivers did a heck of a job shutting him down late in the second half, but man, I thought that last three was going in. Considering he played the whole game, quite a gutsy performance.

2) The atmosphere at Verizon is becoming really interesting for these big games. Since it's a 20,000 seat arena, our undergrad body is pretty small (6,000 or so), and we're in a major city with tons of transplants, there are a TON of road fans at every game. The Domers didn't have much to get loud about on Saturday, but there were a lot of them there. Tonight there were probably 5,000 Cuse fans, mostly in the upper deck. At a few points during Syracuse's comeback, and when they took the lead, the road fans were making more noise than we were. Of course any loud points for Georgetown were louder, and when the crowd needed to, it really rose to the occasion. Notably on Cuse free throws. It's just the folks who sit along the sidelines in the lower bowl tend not to get too noisy unless it's really close late. Or if they get antagonized by the road fans in the upper deck, which got the whole crowd jazzed up earlier than usual tonight.

I sit in the young alums section, but there were a few Cuse fans near me, including one directly in front of me. I'm pretty sure I busted his eardrums by leaning in extra close to yell when Jessie tied the game up at 60.

He was quiet for most of the game, but started getting really loud when Syracuse took the lead. There was much fake consoling of him after the final buzzer, a la Bob Sanders to Nate Kaeding. Hope he scalps an upper deck seat next time.

Big controversy on the HoyaTalk boards about the University signing a deal with StubHub to hawk extra or unwanted tickets. More and more road fans getting prime seats. Oh the things we worry about.

They were teammates at Iowa, and both of them have said that was sincere.

But yeah, we've got some amazingly talented freshmen, probably as good as we did in '03 if not better. The probably is that the upperclassmen have been devestated by injuries (Devo and Rautins) and non-basketball issues (Josh Wright). If by some miracle we can keep Flynn and Greene from the NBA one more year, you can pencil the '08-'09 Orange into the Final Four.

Didn't know that by hoyasaxa

They mentioned during the broadcast that they went to school together, but I figured since they called the penalty, there was something more malicious behind it.

There was nothing sincere about our congratulating the annoying suit wearing Cuse fan in our second last night for almost winning.

And yes, you guys will be sick next year if your frosh return, but I guess that's a big if at this point. You'll still probably be better than this year even if they don't come back. Less talented maybe, but better.

ahh i cant tke this by Dienekes

Baylor behind in the 1st half, roars back to take a big 9 point lead at 60-51 in the second, only to see A&M tie it at 60, then goes up 64-60, only to wind up in OT 64-64. and right now its tie 67-67, Mamadou Diene just fouled out (Baylo has 6 players with 3+ fouls, Aggies with just 2).

SIC 'EM BEARS!!!!

and let me add by Dienekes

it is criminal that this game is not on TV!!!! im forced to watch the updates on ESPN. this is too much.

aaaaah by Dienekes

72-72 with 55 seconds left! aggie ball...

and onto a 2nd OT by Dienekes

but Baylor's running out of fouls and soon players. 1 fouled out, 3 with 4 and 3 with 3.

Baylor went down 4 in this first OT, but clawed back to tie it and eventually take a 2 pt lead, but A&M apparently got a tio-in at the buzzer to tie it again. sigh.

80-80, end of 2nd OT by Dienekes

Dugat and Diene fouledout for Baylor, Jones out for A&M

i'm going to die.

ran out of players (especially what few bigs Baylor has; A&M had at least 3 offensive rebounds in the first 3 minutes of the 3rd OT) and out of gas. down 5 with 2 minutes left, and just missed a shot and fouled....well maybe not just quite yet. Aggies missed both FTs, Baylor made a layup and trails by 3 with a minute and a half left. Aaron Bruce, Curtis Jerrells, work some magic!

could a miracle be about to happen? (though they could have hadit won at the end of regulation and one or both of the OTs, it looks like)

FOURTH OVERTIME!!! by Dienekes

SEC football, eat your heart out!

my heart meanwhile by Dienekes

is beating out of my chest

no matter what happens, its amazing that they scrapped back wth 4 players fouled out down 5 in the 3rd OT

LACEDARIUS DUNN!!!! 1st made FG of the night is a 3-pointer to start the 4th OT!!!! Baylor up 93-90!!!!!!!

headed to FIFTH OT by Dienekes

good grief. Baylor took a lead again only to let A&M tie.

5 players fouled out. 2 more with 4.

this is exhausting and I'm not even actually watching the game...

Heh by hoyasaxa

Heck of a game.

Congrats, man. Big road win.

16-2, 4-0 in the Big 12!!!!

I am in utter shock and elation.
