Tigers thump Duke, target Tar Heels for first ever ACC tourney title

The Clemson Tigers tamed tornado warnings in the semi-finals of the ACC tournament at Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina today, before taming Duke's Blue Devils after 22 straight losses to the Coach K.
Now can they tame what Sandlappers (South Carolinians) call, the "North Carolina Conference" for the first time?
Trevor Booker scored 18 points, Cliff Hammonds added 17 and Clemson, the perennial pushover in the Atlantic Coast Conference, stunned No. 7 Duke 78-74 on Saturday to reach the tournament title game for the first time in 46 years.
After 55 years of ACC basketball, Clemson has never won the conferences coveted tournament title. They have only reached the title game once before, in 1962.
The 24th ranked Tigers are virtually assured their first March Madness bid in nine years no matter Sunday's outcome, but I suspect that Clemson fans will not be looking ahead.
They face a historic nemesis in the Tar Heels of Chapel Hill, where their record of 0-53, set an NCAA record last month.
North Carolina's 53-game home winning streak over Clemson is an NCAA Division I record, surpassing Princeton's 52-game home winning streak over Brown. Clemson's first trip to Chapel Hill came on Jan. 15, 1926. That was five years and 44 days before Dean Smith was born.
But they don't play tomorrow's game in the Dean (named for legendary Coach Smith) Dome on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
Rather, they play in the city where they last defeated the Tar Heels in ACC tourney play, exactly 30 years ago.
So, weather permitting, unlike in tornado ravaged Atlanta Friday night, in the Queen City, also the site of tornado warning delays today, Clemson will try to get a number of monkeys off their back.
The main ape to tame on Sunday is named Tyler Hansbrough, who drilled them in win #53.
Tyler Hansbrough had 39 points and 13 rebounds in the Tar Heels' victory. The last North Carolina player to score at least 35 points and grab 10 rebounds in a single game was … Hansbrough, when he had 40 points and 10 rebounds in the 2005-06 season as a freshman. Before that, the previous 35-10 game by a Tar Heel was by guard Joseph Forte, who had 38 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Tulsa on Nov. 11, 2000.
Go Tigers! Make history on the court like your super star student athelete, Cliff Hammonds did on and off by winning the first annual Skip Prosser award.
[Yes people, a Gamecock shills for the Tigers. I never bought into the hate.]

Tennessee isn't very good. The SEC was awful this year and got 6 bids. They have nothing to complain about at all.

Stealing Gordon away from the Illini, not to mention the other sketchy recruiting they've done. Makes sense though, why would anyone want to go to the hellhole of Indiana for anything...BR's down to one team to cheer for in March Madness since Illinois couldnt pull it ouT. Hook Em

In addition, the NCAA puts a snub on the SEC by not giving a 1 seed to an SEC team. They put Indiana as an 8 seed to face #9 seed AR.
